The two major type of caskets are sealer and non-sealer. In sealer caskets, the differences are in the type of metal, shape of the casket and the interior material. The non-sealing caskets are not air and water-tight and are made from fine hardwoods, steel and cloth. The type and style of casket you choose is you and your family's decision alone. In most areas of the country, no state or local law makes you buy an outer burial container. However, many cemeteries require that you have a container so that the grave will not sink in. Either a grave liner or burial vault will satisfy these requirements.
